Facebook, the world's largest social network may soon be the world's bulliest social network. First, they acquired Israeli invention Snaptu, removed all competing platforms from it and now they are closing the popular app down. Snaptu needs little introduction, it was founded by some Isreali nationals in 2007 to cater for the mass market that had little access to smart phones. It incorporated popular social networks like Facebook, twitter and Linkedin, not forgetting Picasa and Mashable. As a matter of fact, it had an option to add so many other popular websites.

In March 2011, Facebook acquired Snaptu for a reported $70 million. As a company out to protect its market share, Facebook soon kicked out Twitter, Linkedin, Picasa and several rivals from Snaptu. Soon, Facebook launched their own Facebook app, working exactly as Snaptu. Now, the social giant has announced that it is officially closing down Snaptu, through this blog post.
Snaptu has been very popular in Africa and other countries with little access to smart devices. The app has been downloaded tens of millions of times. The news will definitely not be received well. However, you can still access some apps through the app button on your Facebook homepage, as shown here.
The facebook app was initially dogged by problems ranging from loading forever to not opening some sections. The app is now fully functional and will definitely suit most people who in fact only used Snaptu for Facebook.
Someone had written a post on how to access twitter on the new Snaptu now Facebook app, you might want to read it here.

On Dec 26th we will be closing the Snaptu service.
We’ve put a lot of hard work and exercised great focus in order to build Snaptu. To do something really well one has to focus, and now that we’re part of Facebook we are doing just that – we are focusing on Facebook for Every Phone.
Facebook for Every Phone is still in its early stages and there’s much more to do. Our goal is to build an amazing app, one that doesn’t require a fancy phone, but will still provide millions of people around the world with great new ways to connect and interact with their friends.
We hope that you enjoyed Snaptu and we thank you again for your support.
